Private Jet Exumas to Colombo

Exumas, the string of cays that has become one of the Bahamas’ most photographed destinations, sits some 8,491 nautical miles from Colombo, a distance that calls for an executive airliner rather than a conventional long-range jet. Built from converted commercial airframes, these aircraft offer the fuel reserves and onboard comforts, sleeping berths, dining suites and full crew rest facilities, needed for a journey of this scale, generally including a technical stop along the routing. Departure begins at Exuma Airport, gateway to the swimming pigs, sandbars and clear shallows that have made this island chain famous. After a long transit across the Atlantic, Africa and the Indian Ocean, arrival comes into Bandaranaike International Airport near Colombo. Sri Lanka’s capital presents a striking contrast to Exumas’ quiet, sun-bleached cays: a dense, historic port city where Dutch colonial architecture sits beside contemporary towers and where markets in Pettah continue a centuries-old trading tradition. The restored Dutch Hospital precinct now houses restaurants and boutiques close to Galle Face Green, the long seafront promenade where locals gather each evening. Sri Lanka’s tea auctions, still conducted in the city, connect Colombo to a global commodity trade dating back over a century, while the nearby National Museum traces the island’s Buddhist kingdoms across two millennia. For travellers accustomed to the Exumas’ remote, undeveloped character, Colombo’s commercial energy and layered history make for an entirely different experience. This pairing suits those with Bahamian leisure interests exploring Asian business opportunities, or travellers constructing an ambitious multi-continent itinerary. Given the technical stop typically required, advance planning around permits and fuel is essential.
