Demand for large private jets in the Gulf is set to climb sharply over the next few years, and that shapes what is available when you charter to or from Dubai. New research from Airbus Corporate Jets forecasts a steep rise in large-cabin and long-range flying across the Middle East by 2030.
What the Airbus research found
Airbus Corporate Jets surveyed 35 financiers and brokers across the region. They expect flight activity by large business jets to grow by as much as 83% by 2030, with light jets up 80% and midsize jets up 78%. The Middle East already accounts for roughly a third of demand for the largest cabin class, and about 40% of the region’s business aircraft are at or near 15 years in service, which points to a wave of fleet renewal. Airbus is positioning its ACJ TwoTwenty, a VIP version of the A220 with a 5,650 nautical mile range, as able to reach anywhere in Europe, Asia or Africa nonstop from the Gulf.
Family offices are flying more
A second Airbus study, covering family offices that manage a combined $303 billion, helps explain the pull. Some 96% said their use of private aircraft had risen over the past two years, and 85% expect it to grow by a further 50% to 100% over the next two. Nearly 70% now operate across multiple jurisdictions, often with family members living abroad, and 89% reported saving two to three hours per trip compared with scheduled airlines. Among these offices, 43% expect to increase their use of large jets, 55% midsize jets, and 32% light jets.
Chartering to and from Dubai
For anyone chartering in the region, the practical point is choice: more large-cabin and long-range aircraft based in and routed through the Gulf. London to Dubai is about 6h30, with an all-inclusive large-cabin charter guided from roughly $103,000. Paris is a little closer at 6h10. For the long haul, New York to Dubai is around 11h15 nonstop in an ultra-long-range jet, guided from about $243,000 all-inclusive, while Dubai to the Maldives is a 4h20 hop for an onward escape.
