Luang Prabang International Airport (LPQ) serves the UNESCO-listed former royal capital of Laos and lies about 4 km from the centre of Luang Prabang, one of the shortest airport transfers in South-East Asia. It has a single asphalt runway, 05/23, measuring 2,500 metres (8,202 feet), and sits at an elevation of 955 feet (291 metres) at coordinates 19.8972° N, 102.1608° E. The airport is surrounded by hills along the Mekong valley.
The runway length suits light, midsize and super-midsize jets, and many larger business jets can also operate here depending on weight and temperature, so aircraft choice deserves attention in the warmer months. Scheduled connections are limited, which is why private flights are a practical way to reach the town directly from Bangkok, Hanoi, Singapore or Hong Kong, or to link it with Siem Reap and Chiang Mai in one itinerary. The cool, dry season from November to February is the busiest period. The Jet Collection checks performance for your chosen aircraft, arranges permits and handling, and has a car ready for the short drive to your hotel in the old town.
