Private Jet Berry Islands to Chesapeake

The Berry Islands and Chesapeake lie 669 nautical miles apart, a short Bahamian sector well suited to light jets or turboprops, with the Pilatus PC-12 a particularly practical choice given the shorter runways typical of the Out Islands. Flight time runs a little over an hour, with the aircraft cruising in the mid-to-high thirties of thousands of feet, plenty to clear the shallow, reef-scattered waters of the Bahama Banks below. Departure is from Great Harbour Cay Airport, the main strip serving this sparsely populated chain of islands better known to boaters and sport fishermen than to mainstream tourists, prized for waters so clear that sandbars appear to glow turquoise from the air. On arrival, Chesapeake Regional Airport sits within Virginia’s Hampton Roads region, close to the Chesapeake Bay and the naval and maritime infrastructure centred on nearby Norfolk, a fitting bookend for a route linking two places defined by their relationship with water. Chesapeake’s blend of historic canal-town heritage and a growing logistics economy provides a practical mid-Atlantic base for this Bahamian leisure corridor. The Berry Islands remain one of the least developed parts of the Bahamas, attracting a specific type of traveller drawn to sport fishing, diving and genuine seclusion rather than resort infrastructure, and this route accordingly sees a smaller but consistently loyal client base compared with the busier Bahamian gateways, with demand strongest through the winter and spring fishing seasons. Many charter itineraries to this corridor are arranged around a specific fishing trip or private boat rendezvous rather than a standard hotel stay, reflecting the islands’ particular appeal.
