Helicopter Transfer Hailey to Boise

Hailey and Boise lie only around 87 nautical miles apart, a short hop best served by helicopter, with the Airbus H130 well suited to the mission given its speed, comfort and flexibility around both airports. Flying at a modest altitude that keeps the dramatic scenery of central Idaho in clear view throughout, the H130 covers the distance in well under half an hour, considerably faster door-to-door than the drive over Idaho’s mountain highways. Departures use Friedman Memorial Airport, the gateway to Sun Valley and one of the busiest general aviation fields in the Mountain West during ski season. Arrival in Boise brings passengers into Idaho’s capital, where the Boise River Greenbelt, the Basque Block and a lively downtown restaurant scene offer a complete change of pace from Sun Valley’s alpine resort atmosphere, despite the short distance between the two. This route particularly suits skiers and summer visitors splitting time between Sun Valley’s slopes and trails and Boise’s more urban amenities, as well as business travellers needing to reach the state capital quickly from Idaho’s premier resort town. Given the mountainous terrain between the two, a direct flight avoids a drive of well over two hours on winding roads that can close entirely during heavy snow. Helicopter operators on this route benefit from Idaho’s dramatic Sawtooth and Wood River Valley scenery, making the short flight a memorable one in its own right, not simply a practical transfer between two of the state’s best-known destinations. For travellers arriving in the region from further afield, pairing a larger jet into Friedman Memorial or Boise with a short helicopter transfer between the two is often the most efficient way to experience both Sun Valley and the state capital within a single trip.
