Helicopter Transfer Phoenix to Gilbert

At barely 17 nautical miles, Phoenix to Gilbert is less a flight than a hop, and it is flown almost exclusively by helicopter rather than fixed-wing aircraft. An Airbus H130 covers the distance from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in a matter of minutes, climbing only briefly before beginning its approach, with the entire journey often taking less time than the taxi ride to either terminal would on its own. The appeal of this short transfer lies almost entirely in avoiding road traffic across the Valley, particularly during rush hour or major events, when a drive between Sky Harbor and the East Valley can stretch well beyond the flight time itself. Gilbert has grown from a canal-side farming community into one of the largest towns in metropolitan Phoenix, its healthcare and technology sectors now rivalling the more established business districts closer to Sky Harbor, which makes same-day travel between the two increasingly common for executives splitting meetings across the Valley. Visitors arriving into Sky Harbor on a commercial flight and continuing on to a home, resort or office in Gilbert often find the helicopter transfer more practical than a lengthy ground journey, especially with luggage or during the East Valley’s peak winter tourist season. Though short, the route also offers a genuinely scenic pass over the Salt River and the eastern reaches of the Valley, a brief but memorable introduction to the desert landscape for first-time visitors before they ever set foot on the ground in Gilbert itself and its palm-lined streets.
