Private Jet Windsor to Shima

Windsor sits just across the river from Detroit, and while the two cities share an airspace of sorts, Windsor International Airport gives private travellers a quieter, less congested alternative for a journey as substantial as the 5,718 nautical mile run out to the Shima Peninsula. A Gulfstream G650ER or Bombardier Global 7500 is the sensible choice here, flying the roughly eleven-hour crossing non-stop while cruising up to 51,000 feet where conditions allow, an altitude that clears the bulk of weather over Hudson Bay and the North Pacific on this more northerly great-circle track. Windsor’s automotive heritage, tied closely to the industry across the river, makes for an apt point of departure given the destination’s own manufacturing ties. The arrival airport, Chūbu Centrair, was built on an island in Ise Bay expressly to serve Nagoya, the centre of Japan’s automotive industry and home to Toyota, before a short transfer brings travellers south to the Shima Peninsula. There, within Ise-Shima National Park, Ise-Jingu stands as Shinto’s most sacred shrine, its buildings ceremonially rebuilt every twenty years in a ritual of renewal unbroken for well over a millennium. Ago Bay’s sheltered waters remain home to the pearl-cultivation industry Kokichi Mikimoto pioneered in the 1890s, and the peninsula’s ama divers continue to free-dive for shellfish using techniques passed down through generations. Nearby Futami adds the Meoto Iwa, or wedded rocks, a pair of sacred stones joined by a shimenawa rope and considered a symbol of marital harmony. For Windsor and southwestern Ontario travellers, this route bridges two manufacturing regions with a genuinely restorative coastal destination at the far end.
