Private Jet Portofino to Colombo

Covering some 4,292 nautical miles, the route from Portofino to Colombo carries passengers from the Italian Riviera to Sri Lanka’s bustling capital. Most charters depart Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport, a short transfer from Portofino’s harbour and well accustomed to the seasonal influx of private jet traffic that follows the Riviera’s summer social calendar. An ultra-long-range jet is the natural fit for a sector of this length, with types such as the Gulfstream G650ER offering the range to fly nonstop while cruising as high as 45,000 feet, comfortably above the weather systems that can affect the eastern Mediterranean. Arriving into Bandaranaike International Airport, guests trade the pastel villas of the Riviera for Colombo’s mix of Dutch forts, bustling bazaars and a rapidly modernising financial district clustered near the harbour. Sri Lanka’s reputation for Ceylon tea, precious gemstones and Ayurvedic wellness retreats draws a similar clientele to that found along the Riviera, making this an increasingly popular pairing among travellers seeking a second, more exotic base for part of the year. Given the roughly eight-hour flight time, an aircraft with a genuine bedroom suite rather than simply reclining seats makes the transition between two very different worlds considerably more comfortable. The private terminal experience typical of both Genoa and Bandaranaike keeps the transition brisk at either end, a welcome contrast to the eight-hour flight in between. Wellness-focused travellers frequently use this route to reach Ayurvedic retreats along Sri Lanka’s south coast, treating the long sector itself as the first stage of unwinding rather than simply a means of transport.
