Private Jet Madeira to Cavallo

Madeira to Cavallo spans roughly 1,356 nautical miles, a sector well suited to a light jet such as the Citation CJ4, departing Madeira Airport on its dramatic cliffside runway in the mid-Atlantic. Cruising near 43,000 feet, the aircraft manages the roughly two and three-quarter hour crossing efficiently, its cabin well suited to a mid-length regional hop between the Atlantic and the western Mediterranean. Cavallo, the destination, forms part of the Lavezzi archipelago, a cluster of granite islands set within the Bonifacio Strait between Corsica and Sardinia. Madeira’s volcanic peaks and terraced vineyards give way to a very different Mediterranean landscape on arrival, one built around pine-covered granite and water of exceptional clarity, with no roads or vehicles anywhere on the island. Only sandy footpaths connect Cavallo’s small number of villas, each positioned for privacy rather than proximity to any central point. Strong currents through the strait keep the sea remarkably transparent, a feature long prized by sailors and one that has helped the island build a discreet, largely European following over the decades. Development has stayed deliberately minimal throughout Cavallo’s history, with owners consistently favouring preservation of the natural landscape over any expansion of visitor capacity. There is no commercial centre here, only villa terraces catching the evening light and the occasional yacht anchored in a sheltered cove. For travellers departing the mid-Atlantic, the route offers an efficient link to a genuinely secluded Mediterranean island retreat. Days here move at an easy pace, built around swimming from the rocks, a short sail between coves, and dinner lingering on a shaded terrace as the light fades.
