Private Jet Staniel Cay to Montgomery

Staniel Cay sits about 722 nautical miles from Montgomery, but the island’s short airstrip restricts this route to turboprops and very light jets, with the Pilatus PC-12 and Phenom 100 among the few aircraft able to use the runway safely while still carrying a useful passenger load over the roughly two-hour flight. Staniel Cay itself is best known among boaters for Thunderball Grotto, the cave system featured in the James Bond film of the same name, and for the swimming pigs nearby that have made the Exuma chain a popular stop for private yacht charters. On arrival, Montgomery Regional Airport is a short distance from a downtown defined by the civil rights history that unfolded there, including the Dexter Avenue church and the Rosa Parks Museum. The city’s economy has since diversified considerably, with Hyundai’s manufacturing plant now a major local employer. Given the strict runway limitations at Staniel Cay, this pairing is flown almost exclusively by yacht owners, marina operators and the handful of boutique resort guests who base themselves on the cay rather than the Exumas’ larger islands, for whom a turboprop or VLJ charter is not simply the preferred option but genuinely the only way to fly directly between these two points, since no commercial carrier serves the strip and connecting through Nassau or George Town would add considerable time to an otherwise short journey. Fuel and ground support at Staniel Cay are limited by design, a reminder that this remains very much a boater’s airstrip rather than a conventional business aviation gateway.
