King County International Airport (BFI), widely known as Boeing Field, lies about 5 miles (8 km) south of downtown Seattle. It has two asphalt runways: 14R/32L measures 3,050 metres (10,007 feet) by 61 metres (200 feet), and 14L/32R measures 1,131 metres (3,709 feet). The airport sits at an elevation of 21 feet (6 metres) at coordinates 47.5270° N, 122.3000° W.
Around 79 per cent of operations are general aviation, alongside Boeing activity, cargo and medical flights, and several FBOs handle business aircraft. The 10,000-foot runway accommodates any business jet, including ultra-long-range aircraft departing for Asia with full tanks. For private travellers, Boeing Field’s main advantage over Seattle-Tacoma International is proximity: downtown Seattle and the waterfront are around 15 minutes away by car, and Bellevue and the Eastside technology campuses roughly 25 to 35 minutes depending on traffic. The Museum of Flight, on the south-west corner of the field, displays the first Boeing 747, an early Boeing 787 and a Concorde, and visitors can watch aircraft on the airfield. The Jet Collection arranges the aircraft, the handling at Boeing Field and a car to downtown, Bellevue or the waterfront.
