Bristol is the largest city in the south-west of England and one of the country’s most productive regional economies. Aerospace has deep roots at Filton, where wing design, engine and defence work continue, and the city has grown into a centre for financial and legal services around Temple Quay, for microelectronics and for the creative industries, including some of the world’s best-known natural history film-making. The University of Bristol and the University of the West of England supply a steady stream of research and talent. The city itself is easy to enjoy: Clifton and its suspension bridge over the Avon Gorge, the Harbourside and Brunel’s SS Great Britain. Bath is about 20 km to the south-east, the Cotswolds lie to the north and the Badminton Horse Trials take place each May.
Motorway traffic on the M4 and M5 can make road journeys unpredictable, and a private flight brings Bristol within easy reach of European headquarters for a day of meetings. Private jets use Bristol Airport (BRS) at Lulsgate Bottom, about 13 km south-west of the city centre, which has a purpose-built general aviation terminal. Typical flight times are around 1 hour 15 minutes from Paris or Edinburgh and around 1 hour 45 minutes from Geneva. The Jet Collection arranges the aircraft, the handling at Lulsgate and cars to Bristol, Bath or the Cotswolds.
