Finnish Lapland is the vast northern region of Finland, crossed by the Arctic Circle and covered by forest, fells and frozen lakes for much of the year. In winter it offers polar night, the northern lights, husky and reindeer safaris and cross-country skiing, while summer brings the midnight sun. Rovaniemi, the regional capital, is home to Santa Claus Village on the Arctic Circle and is the main destination for family trips before Christmas. Levi, the largest ski resort in Finland, hosts a World Cup slalom in November, and Ylläs nearby offers long, quiet runs. Further north, Saariselkä and the glass igloos of Kakslauttanen are reached via Ivalo airport.
Private jets fly to Kittilä Airport (KTT), about 15 km by road from Levi, or to Rovaniemi Airport (RVN), about 10 km north of the city, which has the longer runway and sits on the Arctic Circle itself. Both airports are busiest from late November to mid-January, when charter flights from across Europe arrive for the Christmas season, so slots and parking should be arranged early. Cold-weather operations, de-icing and short daylight hours require careful planning by the operator. Flight times to Kittilä or Rovaniemi are around 1 hour 15 minutes from Helsinki, around 3 hours 30 minutes from London and around 3 hours 45 minutes from Paris. The Jet Collection arranges an aircraft and crew used to Arctic conditions, handling on arrival and the transfer to your lodge or chalet.
