Lugano is the largest city in the Italian-speaking Swiss canton of Ticino, set on a bay of Lake Lugano between Monte Brè and Monte San Salvatore. It is the third financial centre of Switzerland after Zürich and Geneva, with private banks, wealth managers and commodity traders based along the lakefront, and it combines Swiss organisation with an Italian way of life. The LAC cultural centre, the arcaded Via Nassa, the Parco Ciani and the lakeside villages of Gandria and Morcote draw visitors through the year. Lake Como is around 30 minutes away, and Milan is just over an hour by road, making Lugano a natural base for business across the border and for summer days on the lakes.
Lugano Airport (LUG) lies at Agno, about 4 km west of the city centre. Scheduled flights ended in 2019, and the airport now serves general aviation, including private flights. Its short runway and steep instrument approach mean aircraft and crews must be chosen carefully, so light and midsize jets are the usual choice. For larger aircraft, Milan Malpensa is about 60 km to the south, around 1 hour by road. Flying privately into Lugano itself puts you in the city centre within 10 minutes of landing. Flight times to Lugano are around 1 hour 15 minutes from Paris, around 1 hour 45 minutes from London and around 1 hour 15 minutes from Frankfurt. The Jet Collection selects an aircraft cleared for Lugano or Malpensa and arranges handling and your transfer to the lakefront.
