Penang combines a historic trading port with one of Malaysia’s main industrial centres. George Town, listed by UNESCO, is a grid of shophouses, clan houses and the waterfront Clan Jetties, with temples, mosques and churches within a few streets of each other and a street food culture that draws visitors from across Asia. The Eastern & Oriental Hotel, opened in 1885, still faces the sea at the end of Farquhar Street, while Batu Ferringhi on the north coast has the island’s beach hotels and Penang Hill offers cooler air above the city. On the south of the island, the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone hosts semiconductor and electronics manufacturers, which brings steady corporate travel throughout the year.
Private flights use Penang International Airport (PEN), at Bayan Lepas on the south-east tip of the island, about 16 km south of George Town’s centre. The single long runway handles every category of business jet, and the drive to the factories of Bayan Lepas takes minutes, which makes same-day site visits practical. Flight times are around 1 hour from Kuala Lumpur, about 1 hour 30 minutes from Singapore or Bangkok and around 4 hours from Hong Kong. For leisure trips, Penang pairs well with Langkawi, a short hop to the north. The Jet Collection arranges the aircraft and the handling at Penang, and coordinates cars to George Town, Batu Ferringhi or the industrial zone.
