Siem Reap is the gateway to Angkor, the vast former capital of the Khmer Empire and one of the largest religious sites in the world. Angkor Wat, the faces of the Bayon in Angkor Thom, the tree-wrapped ruins of Ta Prohm and the pink sandstone carvings of Banteay Srei draw visitors at sunrise and in the quieter late afternoon. The town itself has grown into a relaxed base of riverside hotels, restaurants and craft workshops, with addresses such as Amansara and the Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor, and the Tonlé Sap lake with its floating villages lies to the south. The cool, dry months from November to March are the main season.
Since October 2023, flights have used the new Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport (SAI), which replaced the old airport on the edge of town. It lies about 50 km east of Siem Reap and around 40 km from Angkor Wat, so allow roughly an hour by road. The long runway accepts any business jet, including long-range types arriving non-stop from further afield. Flying privately avoids connections through Bangkok or Phnom Penh and lets you time the arrival around an early start at the temples. Typical flight times are around 1 hour from Bangkok, about 2 hours from Singapore and around 2 hours 30 minutes from Hong Kong. The Jet Collection arranges the flight, the visa and arrival formalities with the handler, and the car to your hotel.
