Private Jet Abacos to Cavallo

The Abacos to Cavallo route covers roughly 4,232 nautical miles, a transatlantic sector well matched to a heavy business jet such as the Gulfstream G550 or Bombardier Global 6000, both offering the range for a non-stop crossing while cruising near 45,000 feet above much of the weather that can affect the Atlantic and southern Europe. Leonard M. Thompson International Airport, serving the Abacos in the Bahamas, is the point of departure, with the routing tracking broadly north-east across the ocean before descending towards Corsica’s southern tip. Cavallo, the destination, belongs to the Lavezzi archipelago, separated from Sardinia by the narrow, fast-flowing Bonifacio Strait, and lacking any runway of its own, the final leg is completed by helicopter from Figari-Sud Corse to the island’s private helistrip. The Abacos, long favoured by a sailing community that prizes quiet anchorages over marina crowds, share more in common with Cavallo than the distance between them might suggest, both destinations having built their reputations on a similar refusal to overdevelop. For those departing the Bahamas, the roughly seven-hour flight is a considerable but comfortable transatlantic journey, and the heavy jet’s cabin, with proper rest facilities and full connectivity, keeps the crossing productive, delivering passengers from one sailing haven to another in good order and ready to explore. Charter operators serving this route often note that the biggest planning variable is not the Atlantic crossing itself but the final helicopter transfer, which depends heavily on conditions over the Bonifacio Strait that can shift quickly even in summer. It is a route best planned well in advance given the aircraft positioning involved, though the reward at the far end more than justifies the logistics for those who make the trip.
