Private Jet Addis Ababa to Kalamata

Ethiopia’s high altitude capital lies roughly 1,912 nautical miles from Kalamata, a distance comfortably suited to a super mid size jet flying direct in a little under four hours. The Gulfstream G280 and Bombardier Challenger 350 are both regularly specified for this sector, each able to depart Bole Addis Ababa International Airport, itself sited more than 2,300 metres above sea level, without the performance penalties that altitude imposes on smaller aircraft. Once airborne, these jets climb to around 45,000 feet, tracking north west over the Red Sea corridor and the eastern Mediterranean before descending into the Peloponnese. Addis Ababa’s airport serves as the continent’s busiest aviation hub and home to the African Union headquarters, meaning private aviation infrastructure there is well developed for executive and diplomatic traffic alike. Kalamata International Airport, by contrast, feels distinctly low key, sitting a short drive from a harbour town whose Byzantine castle and olive lined hills present a considerable change of scenery. Messinia’s olive oil, some of the most sought after in Greece, comes almost entirely from groves within a short radius of the airport, and the ruins of ancient Messene lie within easy reach for those extending their stay. Inside the cabin, a stand up ceiling and forward galley make it possible to serve a proper meal across the four hour flight, a welcome touch after the thinner air and higher temperatures typical of an Addis Ababa departure. This pairing tends to attract diplomatic and NGO travellers working across the Horn of Africa, alongside business figures with interests spanning East Africa and southern Europe, all of whom find the super mid size category well matched to a route of this length and altitude demand.
