Private Jet Corsica to Lucerne

Corsica and Lucerne lie about 304 nautical miles apart, a forty-five-minute crossing for a light jet such as the Citation CJ4 or, for a smaller party, a Pilatus PC-12 turboprop, both able to operate from Calvi-Sainte-Catherine, the airport serving Corsica’s northwest coast. The flight climbs over the island’s mountainous interior before crossing the Mediterranean coast of France and the Alps, a routing that keeps dramatic terrain in view for most of the journey, from granite peaks to glacier-carved valleys, with barely a stretch of flat ground visible below for the length of the crossing. Corsica’s maquis-covered hills and granite coastline give way, on arrival near Buochs Airport, to the greener, more orderly landscape of central Switzerland, with Lake Lucerne opening out beneath Mount Pilatus. The island’s rugged, sometimes wild character contrasts with Lucerne’s carefully preserved old town, where the timber-framed buildings along the Reuss have stood, in some cases, since the sixteenth century, restored and maintained rather than left to nature, their painted facades repainted every few decades to preserve the original designs and colours for future generations. This route suits travellers who have spent a summer stay on Corsica’s coast looking to continue on to Switzerland for business or an Alpine break before the season ends, and the choice between a light jet and a turboprop generally comes down to party size, with the PC-12 offering a more economical option for one or two passengers making a sector this short, particularly given Calvi’s more limited facilities compared with a major regional airport elsewhere on the island or the mainland.
