Private Jet London to Madeira

London to Madeira spans 1,347 nautical miles, a sector well suited to the super mid-size and mid-size jets that regularly operate from London City, Farnborough or, for the initial transfer, London Heliport. The Gulfstream G280 and Bombardier Challenger 350 both complete the crossing in under three hours, cruising above 43,000 feet where the ride typically sits clear of the low pressure systems that frequently affect the English Channel and the Bay of Biscay. For London-based travellers, the appeal of a private departure lies as much in avoiding Heathrow and Gatwick’s congestion as in the comfort of the flight itself, particularly during the winter months when weather disruption to scheduled services is common, and when slot delays at major London airports routinely run into hours rather than minutes. Madeira has drawn British travellers since the nineteenth century, when the island’s mild climate first made it a favoured winter retreat for wealthy Victorians, a history still visible in grand hotels such as Reid’s Palace overlooking Funchal’s harbour. The island’s terraced vineyards and centuries-old wine trade sit alongside a volcanic interior of laurel forest and levada footpaths, while Camara de Lobos, a small fishing village along the coast, retains the character that once drew Winston Churchill to paint there. The annual New Year fireworks display over Funchal’s harbour remains one of the island’s best-known events, drawing visitors specifically for the occasion each December. This long-standing British connection to Madeira makes the route a natural fit for travellers seeking a familiar yet genuinely different winter escape, and private charter removes the need for a change of aircraft in Lisbon that a scheduled itinerary would otherwise require.
