Private Jet Marfa to Capri

Marfa Municipal Airport, serving the remote high-desert art town of west Texas, is the departure point for a 5,344 nautical mile transatlantic crossing to Capri, a distance that calls for an ultra-long-range aircraft such as the Gulfstream G650ER or Global 7500, both capable of covering the distance non-stop while cruising as high as 51,000 feet, well above most weather and commercial traffic. The technical margin these aircraft carry matters on a sector this long, particularly given the prevailing headwinds on an eastbound Atlantic crossing during winter months. Leaving the Chihuahuan Desert and its wide, star-filled skies behind, travellers arrive by helicopter into Capri Heliport, delivered directly to an island where the geography could not be more different: sheer limestone cliffs dropping into the Tyrrhenian Sea, narrow stepped lanes, and the Faraglioni rock formations rising just offshore. The Blue Grotto remains the island’s signature attraction, its cavern illuminated by sunlight bouncing beneath the waterline to produce a striking blue glow visible only from small rowing boats that duck through its low entrance. Inland, Anacapri’s quieter streets and the Monte Solaro chairlift offer respite from the crowds that gather each evening at the Piazzetta, long the island’s social centre. Villa Jovis, the ruined imperial villa above Capri town, speaks to the island’s two-thousand-year history as a retreat for the powerful. This pairing suits Marfa’s art-world visitors and West Texas landowners alike, for whom the investment in ultra-long-range capability pays off in the form of a single unbroken sector to one of the Mediterranean’s most storied and enduringly fashionable islands.
