Private Jet Punta Arenas to Montauk

Punta Arenas to Montauk spans approximately 5,657 nautical miles, a crossing of nearly eleven hours that sits within reach of an ultra-long-range aircraft such as the Gulfstream G650ER or Bombardier Global 7500, both capable of covering the distance nonstop from the southern tip of South America to the northeastern United States. Presidente Carlos Ibáñez del Campo International Airport, serving Chilean Patagonia’s principal gateway city on the Strait of Magellan, is a relatively remote field, and careful planning around fuel and weather is worthwhile given the region’s notoriously strong winds. Montauk Airport, at journey’s end, is a modest single-strip field serving a quiet fishing and surfing town, its lighthouse and dune-backed beaches a marked change from the glaciers, penguin colonies and windswept steppe surrounding Punta Arenas. The final approach over the Atlantic marks a gentle close to a journey that began near the edge of the Antarctic gateway. This pairing generally serves adventure tourism operators, scientific expedition organisers and private clients with a genuine interest in Patagonia and Antarctica who also maintain an American East Coast base. Given Punta Arenas’ relative remoteness and challenging wind conditions, this route rewards working with an operator experienced in Southern Cone long-range departures, ensuring the aircraft’s substantial range is matched by careful attention to the region’s particular flying conditions. Patagonian weather can change rapidly, and departure windows here are often built with generous flexibility given the strong, unpredictable winds that regularly sweep across the Strait of Magellan. Building a day or two of buffer into the wider itinerary is a sensible precaution given how quickly conditions at this remote gateway can shift.
