Private Jet Staniel Cay to Montauk

Staniel Cay, home to the famous swimming pigs of Big Major Cay, sits approximately 1,043 nautical miles from Montauk, a distance best flown by a turboprop or very light jet such as a Pilatus PC-12 or Phenom 100, given Staniel Cay Airport’s short runway and limited facilities. Flight time runs close to two hours, with turboprops cruising efficiently in the mid-20,000s, well suited to the shorter runways and less developed infrastructure typical of this part of the Exuma chain. The aircraft departs over some of the clearest water in the Bahamas, a striking backdrop for the climb out before the route turns north across open ocean toward the United States. Arrival into Montauk Airport places passengers within reach of surfcasting beaches and charter fishing fleets, a fitting complement to the boating and diving culture that defines Staniel Cay itself, best known among cruisers for Thunderball Grotto and its resident marine life. Given the cay’s minimal ground infrastructure, careful advance coordination on fuel availability and handling is essential, and turboprops are generally favoured here over larger jets precisely because they can operate comfortably within the airstrip’s constraints. This route serves a specific but loyal community of boating enthusiasts, private island owners and adventurous travellers drawn to one of the more remote and characterful corners of the Exumas, who increasingly maintain a second base on Long Island’s East End for the summer months. Same-day return flights are practical given the modest flight time, though operators typically recommend building in flexibility around weather, as this part of the Bahamas can see rapid changes in tropical conditions.
