Private Jet Butte to Sun valley

Butte to Sun Valley is a short hop of just 165 nautical miles, one of the shortest sectors on the entire network and easily handled by a Light Jet, Turboprop or Very Light Jet such as the Phenom 100, Pilatus PC-12 or Citation Mustang. Departing Bert Mooney Airport, this half-hour flight barely reaches cruise altitude before beginning its descent into Friedman Memorial, making it a practical option for Montana travellers looking to reach Idaho’s premier mountain resort without the time investment of a longer journey. Given how brief this hop is, the choice of aircraft often comes down to convenience and availability rather than range considerations, with a well-positioned turboprop sometimes offering a faster overall door-to-door time than a jet requiring a longer taxi and climb. Sun Valley Resort has operated since 1936, when America’s first chairlift opened there, and Bald Mountain’s high-elevation terrain remains known for consistently dry, high-desert snow, a quality that has drawn comparisons with Montana’s own well-regarded ski areas. Ketchum’s small downtown carries a genuinely local feel, with independent galleries, restaurants and outfitters that cater to residents as much as visitors. Once the snow melts, the valley draws anglers to Silver Creek and the Big Wood River, both known for demanding, technical dry-fly conditions, while hikers and golfers make use of the surrounding Sawtooth National Recreation Area and the resort’s historic course. Given the short distance, this route is regularly used for spontaneous day trips as much as the start of a longer stay. Montana’s own deep ski culture, home to several respected resorts in its own right, gives Butte-based travellers an informed frame of reference when comparing conditions on arrival at Sun Valley’s celebrated Bald Mountain.
