Private Jet Abacos to Jersey City

The Abacos, a chain of islands in the northern Bahamas, lie approximately 878 nautical miles from Jersey City, a sector of under two hours suited to a light jet such as the Phenom 300 or a turboprop like the Pilatus PC-12, both well matched to Leonard M. Thompson International Airport’s runway and the modest passenger numbers typical of this leisure-driven route. Cruise altitude near 41,000 feet keeps the short crossing of the western Atlantic smooth for most of the year. Leonard M. Thompson International Airport, serving Marsh Harbour and the wider Abacos chain, has rebuilt its infrastructure considerably since Hurricane Dorian, and now handles private aviation traffic efficiently for a region still recovering elements of its tourism economy. Arrival into Newark Liberty International Airport places Jersey City a short drive away, avoiding the longer connections through Nassau or Florida that scheduled service to the Abacos typically requires. Sailors and boating enthusiasts make up a significant share of this route’s traffic, drawn by the Sea of Abaco’s sheltered cruising grounds, considered among the finest in the Bahamas, along with second-home owners rebuilding or maintaining properties across the island chain following the 2019 storm. The absence of meaningful scheduled commercial capacity into the Abacos makes private charter the practical default for most travellers heading there directly rather than via Nassau, and the relatively short two-hour flight time keeps even a long weekend on the water a genuinely realistic proposition for New York-based sailors and second-home owners alike, without sacrificing a full working week to the journey itself.
