Lombok sits just east of Bali across the Lombok Strait, larger and far less built up than its neighbour. Mount Rinjani, at 3,726 metres the second-highest volcano in Indonesia, dominates the north, with a crater lake that draws trekkers. The south coast around Kuta and the Mandalika development has wide bays, surf beaches and the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit, which hosts the Indonesian MotoGP round. To the north-west, Senggigi has the older resort hotels, and from nearby harbours speedboats cross to the three Gili islands. Resorts such as The Oberoi Beach Resort Lombok and a growing number of private villas on the south-west peninsula of Sekotong round out the offer. The dry season runs from about May to October.
Lombok International Airport (LOP) is near Praya in Central Lombok, about 27 km from the provincial capital Mataram and well placed for Kuta and Mandalika on the south coast. Its runway was extended to 3,300 metres in 2022 ahead of the first MotoGP race, so it can take any business jet, and traffic peaks sharply on race weekends. Flying privately avoids the connection through Bali or Jakarta, and the island makes a natural pairing with Bali or Sumba in one trip. Flight times are around 30 minutes from Bali, about 2 hours from Jakarta, around 2 hours 30 minutes from Singapore and roughly 3 hours from Perth. The Jet Collection arranges the aircraft, secures parking on busy race weekends and books the car or boat to your villa or the Gilis.
