Private Jet Abacos to Gilbert

The Abacos, a string of islands and cays in the northern Bahamas known for their strong sailing heritage, lie roughly 1,851 nautical miles from Gilbert, a sector comfortably handled by a mid-size or super mid-size jet in a little over three hours. Aircraft such as the Citation Latitude or Challenger 350 cover the distance efficiently, cruising in the high thirties to low forties across the Gulf of Mexico and the American Southwest. Departures use Leonard M. Thompson International Airport, serving an island chain whose Loyalist heritage, dating to the American Revolution, still shapes the clapboard architecture and New England-style townscapes of settlements like Hope Town and New Plymouth. Arrival is into Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, a dedicated general aviation field east of Phoenix that keeps private traffic clear of the congestion affecting Phoenix’s larger commercial airport. Gilbert, the destination, has grown from farmland into one of Arizona’s fastest-expanding suburbs, its downtown rebuilt from old agricultural buildings and its neighbourhoods known for strong schools and easy access to golf and desert trails. The Abacos, having weathered a devastating hurricane in 2019, have rebuilt steadily in the years since, their sheltered Sea of Abaco remaining one of the finest sailing grounds in the Bahamas. This sector suits sailing enthusiasts, property owners and leisure travellers seeking a direct, private hop to one of the Bahamas’ most storied island communities. Hope Town’s candy-striped lighthouse remains one of the most photographed landmarks in the Bahamas, a fitting symbol of the islands’ New England-influenced heritage. Marsh Harbour, the largest town in the chain, has served as the main hub for rebuilding efforts and remains the practical gateway for most visitors.
