Private Jet Abacos to Overland Park

The Abacos to Overland Park route measures roughly 1,164 nautical miles, a distance well suited to a light jet or turboprop such as the Cessna Citation CJ4 or Pilatus PC-12, both capable of operating comfortably into the Bahamian out-islands’ more compact airfields while cruising efficiently for a journey of this length. Flights depart from Leonard M. Thompson International Airport, serving the Abaco Islands, a boating and sailing haven known for pastel-coloured settlements, barrier reefs and a strong Loyalist heritage dating to the American Revolution. Arrival in Overland Park introduces a rather different setting: a meticulously planned, affluent Kansas City suburb known for its corporate headquarters, the architecturally distinctive Museum at Prairiefire, and generous parkland threading through Indian Creek. A short journey brings guests into downtown Kansas City, home to celebrated barbecue, a storied jazz heritage and the Nelson-Atkins Museum’s noted collection. This route particularly suits boating and sailing enthusiasts returning from the Abacos’ marinas and cays, along with owners of vacation properties scattered throughout the archipelago. Chartering privately is often the most practical way to reach this part of the Bahamas efficiently, given the limited scheduled service connecting the out-islands directly to the American Midwest, and it offers the flexibility to depart precisely when a boating trip or family stay comes to an end. The islands’ strong Loyalist heritage and preserved historic settlements, such as New Plymouth on Green Turtle Cay, add further appeal for visitors keen to explore beyond the marina before heading home. Many owners of second homes throughout the Abacos treat private charter as a routine part of island life rather than an occasional indulgence, given how infrequent and indirect scheduled commercial options to this part of the Bahamas tend to be, particularly outside the main winter season.
