Private Jet Cape Town to Cavallo

Some 4,554 nautical miles separate Cape Town from Cavallo, a journey that runs the full length of Africa and into the western Mediterranean and firmly demands a heavy business jet with genuine intercontinental range. The Gulfstream G550 or Bombardier Global 6000 are the natural picks, offering the endurance for a single non-stop sector while cruising near 45,000 feet for much of the flight, above the weather systems that can affect both the African coastline and southern Europe. Departure is from Cape Town International Airport, South Africa’s principal gateway for the Western Cape and a well-equipped base for long-range private charter, with the routing tracking broadly north-west along the African coast before curving into the Mediterranean. Cavallo, at journey’s end, is a private island within the Lavezzi archipelago off Corsica’s southern tip, close enough to Sardinia that the Maddalena Islands are visible across the Bonifacio Strait, and it has no commercial air link, so arrival is completed by helicopter from Figari-Sud Corse to the island’s own helistrip. Cape Town and Cavallo share a certain coastal drama, granite and mountain scenery both, but where Cape Town is a major commercial city, Cavallo remains deliberately undeveloped, its coves and clear water reserved for a small, discreet clientele rather than the wider public. For passengers making this crossing, the near-nine-hour flight is a substantial undertaking eased considerably by the heavy jet’s cabin, complete with proper sleeping arrangements, giving travellers the chance to arrive at one of the Mediterranean’s most private islands genuinely rested. The island’s granite, part of the same geological formation that runs through the Lavezzi group and across to Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda, has been shaped by wind and sea into smooth, sculptural forms that lend Cavallo’s coves their distinctive character, a detail that regular visitors often cite as part of the island’s particular appeal.
