Private Jet Telluride to Tempe

Telluride Regional Airport sits among the highest commercial airfields in North America, at an elevation above 9,000 feet, a factor that shapes almost every charter departure from it. For the 339-nautical-mile hop to Tempe, a Pilatus PC-12 is the practical choice, its turboprop engine and robust undercarriage suited to the field’s elevation and occasionally challenging approach, while still cruising at a respectable 30,000 feet and carrying up to nine passengers in comfort for the roughly forty-five-minute flight. Jets with less favourable high-altitude performance are often restricted here, making the PC-12 something of a workhorse for Colorado’s ski resort traffic, valued as much for its reliability as for its speed. The contrast on arrival is considerable. Telluride’s box canyon and alpine scenery give way to the open desert floor around Tempe, reached through Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Arizona State University’s sprawling campus and the waterside development around Tempe Town Lake give the city a lively, youthful energy that pairs well with Telluride’s own outdoor-focused crowd, many of whom split their time between ski season in Colorado and golf season in Arizona. The route is especially popular in the shoulder months, when skiers based in Telluride head south for warmer weather, or when Phoenix-area residents make the reverse trip for a long weekend on the slopes, taking advantage of a flight that comfortably beats the equivalent five-hour mountain drive on winding roads. Flight time works out at under an hour, making it realistic to ski a full morning in Colorado and still be on an Arizona golf course by mid-afternoon the same day.
