Private Jet Tortola to Capri

Tortola, the largest of the British Virgin Islands, lies close to 4,200 nautical miles from Capri, a sector that puts this squarely in heavy-jet territory, best flown aboard a Gulfstream G550 or Global 6000 cruising at altitudes up to 45,000 feet across the eight-hour crossing. Departure is from Terrance B. Lettsome Airport, a short runway serving an island built almost entirely around sailing, its steep green hills dropping to a coastline of protected coves that has made the BVI one of the Caribbean’s most established yachting bases. That maritime culture makes for an easy conversational bridge to Capri, an island equally shaped by the sea, where arriving passengers touch down at Capri Heliport, above the town, and can be at the Piazzetta within minutes. The Faraglioni sea stacks, visible from almost any high point on the island, remain Capri’s defining landmark, and a short boat trip around them or into the Blue Grotto is a near-obligatory outing for first-time visitors. History runs deep here too: the ruins of Villa Jovis, Emperor Tiberius’s clifftop retreat, still crown the island’s eastern edge, a reminder that Capri has been drawing powerful figures seeking seclusion for close to two thousand years. Via Camerelle’s boutiques offer a more contemporary form of indulgence come evening, while the Certosa di San Giacomo’s quiet cloisters provide a counterpoint of calm. Given the length of the crossing, cabin comfort and rest matter, and the recommended aircraft both offer flat-bed configurations suited to arriving ready for an evening out rather than needing recovery time. This route suits BVI-based travellers and yacht owners looking to swap one storied sailing culture for another, moving between two islands whose reputations were built, in very different ways, on the sea around them.
