Private Jet Staniel Cay to Madeira

Staniel Cay to Madeira covers 3,146 nautical miles, a distance that sits comfortably within the range of a heavy jet such as the Gulfstream G550, or the Bombardier Global 6000 for operators wanting a slightly larger cabin over the extended Atlantic crossing. Cruise altitudes near 45,000 feet keep the aircraft above most weather while allowing crews to make efficient use of favourable winds along the way. Staniel Cay Airport, a small strip serving one of the Exumas’ most famous boating stops, handles the departure, with advance coordination essential given the airport’s modest facilities relative to a sector of this length. Arrival into Madeira Airport offers a dramatic change of scenery, the aircraft descending along volcanic cliffs quite unlike the shallow, clear banks and swimming pigs that have made Staniel Cay a well-known Bahamian curiosity. Travellers making this crossing are typically drawn by the scale of the contrast on offer, exchanging one of the world’s more photographed small islands for a green, mountainous Atlantic archipelago known for its ancient laurel forest, terraced vineyards and centuries-old wine production. Funchal’s old town, harbourfront market and cable car to the botanical gardens above the bay provide an easy introduction after the flight. Given the distance involved, this sector suits guests planning a substantial stay on Madeira, and with no realistic scheduled alternative linking Staniel Cay to Madeira directly, private charter remains by far the most practical way to make this unusual pairing of islands work. Given the airport’s limited facilities, most operators recommend confirming fuel and customs arrangements well in advance, and building some flexibility into the schedule to account for weather along such a lengthy stretch of open Atlantic water.
