Private Jet Edinburgh to Anchorage

Edinburgh’s northerly latitude works in its favour on this 3,606 nautical mile route to Anchorage, shortening the polar crossing relative to flights departing from further south in Europe and keeping the sector comfortably within range of a heavy jet such as the Gulfstream G550, or an ultra-long-range type like the Global 6000 for operators wanting extra margin. Cruise altitude typically runs between 41,000 and 45,000 feet across the North Atlantic, Greenland and the Canadian Arctic, above the bulk of en-route weather. Departing Edinburgh Airport, the flight leaves Scotland’s capital behind for a landscape of an entirely different character: the approach into Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport reveals the Chugach Mountains rising directly behind the runway and Cook Inlet’s dramatic tidal bore visible on the final descent. Anchorage functions as Alaska’s commercial and transport hub, and from the terminal travellers typically continue onward, whether by the Alaska Railroad to Denali National Park or by floatplane from Lake Hood to the glaciers of Prince William Sound. Scotland’s whisky, energy and financial sectors send the occasional business traveller north on Alaska-related work, but the majority of passengers on this pairing are headed for wildlife and adventure tourism, drawn by salmon fishing on the Kenai Peninsula, bear viewing along the coast, or simply the scale of the wilderness within easy reach of the city. Both destinations share a fondness for hiking and a healthy respect for changeable weather, and Anchorage’s Flattop Mountain trail offers views not unlike those from Arthur’s Seat, if considerably wilder. Summer’s long daylight hours suit most itineraries, while a winter charter brings the added appeal of the aurora borealis, visible on clear nights well away from the city centre.
